Dr. Richard M. Paicius, M.D.
Dr Paicius founded Newport Beach Headache and Pain in 1996. He has been named one of “Orange County’s Best Doctors”. Specializing in interventional pain management, he is recognized internationally for his work in spinal cord stimulation. Having had academic positions at UCLA and UC Irvine in Anesthesiology and Pain Management, he has built a multi-disciplinary team in Newport Beach to address the varied needs of pain patients.
After graduating medical school from The University of Arizona, he completed his residency and internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr Paicius is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Board of Pain Medicine, and earned extended qualifications by the ABA. He has taught hundreds of physicians advanced techniques in interventional pain management.
Using a multi-disciplinary approach, Dr Paicius customizes care depending on the patient’s needs and desires.
Dr. Kim, M.D.
Dr. Paul S. Kim is a pain specialist and anesthesiologist. He completed his training in interventional pain management at Harvard Medical School, at the prestigious Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, recipient of the American Academy of Pain Medicine fellowship excellence award. He also spent a portion of his training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital and has been mentored by some of the top leaders and innovators in the field of pain medicine. He has a passion for teaching, and has had the opportunity to teach Harvard Medical students and residents, as well as pain physicians from across the country with his involvement in The Principles and Practice of Pain Medicine, which has been among the highest rated Harvard Medical School continuing medical education courses. Dr. Kim is a proponent of evidence based medicine, and has published multiple papers with years of experience in research in the fields of pain medicine, neurology, and psychology, including experience with full time basic science research involving the molecular, genetic, and behavioral basis of addiction at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Gallo research center. Dr. Kim is passionate about pain medicine, believes in a multi-disciplinary approach to treating pain, and hopes to bring the newest technological innovations and treatment modalities to the patients under his care.
Renee Fabrizi-Piel, PA-C
After graduating Sum Cum Laude from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, in 2001, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel joined Dr. Richard Paicius at Newport Beach Headache & Pain. With more than a decade of experience treating thousands of patients with chronic pain Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel is passionately dedicated to the health and well-being of every individual. As part of her "whole patient" philosophy, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel utilizes traditional and alternative approaches to pain reduction inclding diet and exercise, partnering with her patients to help reconnect them to a life of pleasure and joy.
A former competitive swimmer and equestrian, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel enjoys surfing, football and spending time with her husband and son.
Dr. Ken Tsai, L.A.c.
Dr. Ken Tsai obtained his PhD, in Philosophy of Eastern Medicine and has been practicing Acupuncture for over 20 years. He is well know in the World of Traditional Medicine and has been the Vice President and on the Board of Directors of the Acupuncture Medicine Association of Southern California. Dr. Tsai treats a variety of physical and emotional issues.
Karen Michele Russell-Hagler, CCMA-A C
Karen-Michele has been a Certified Medical Assistant over 10 years. She has been with Newport Beach Headache and Pain for the past 8 years. She enjoys the challenge of the diverse pain issues patients present with and helping the doctors to facilitate the best care to resolve them. Her hobbies include inspirational art and poetry, beachcombing, kayaking and playing with her dwarf rabbit.
Amber Stavros, Business Development
Amber has been with Newport Beach Headache and Pain for 3 years and has served in several positions giving her a great knowledge of how the office operates and what our goals are, as medical care providers. She currently serves as head of Business Development; educating Physicians and the public on the benefits of therapies that we can offer, as a Pain Management practice. Amber currently lives in Irvine with her husband Andy and their 2 dogs and a cat Bogy, Vinny and Jersey. She enjoys playing volleyball, snowboarding, going to the movies and loves Taco Tuesdays!
