Dr. Richard M. Paicius, M.D.
Dr Paicius founded Newport Beach Headache and Pain in 1996. He has been named one of “Orange County’s Best Doctors”. Specializing in interventional pain management, he is recognized internationally for his work in spinal cord stimulation. Having had academic positions at UCLA and UC Irvine in Anesthesiology and Pain Management, he has built a multi-disciplinary team in Newport Beach to address the varied needs of pain patients.
After graduating medical school from The University of Arizona, he completed his residency and internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr Paicius is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Board of Pain Medicine, and earned extended qualifications by the ABA. He has taught hundreds of physicians advanced techniques in interventional pain management.
Using a multi-disciplinary approach, Dr Paicius customizes care depending on the patient’s needs and desires.
Dr. John Michels, M.D.
He was names NFL All-Rookie 1st Team and the Green Bay Packers Rookie of the Year after helping the Packers to a 13-3 season, which culminated in a victory over the New England Patriots in uper Bowl XXXI. In his second season in the NFL John started 5 games before being sidelined by injury. The Packer went on to lose to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXII. In only his third season as a professional John suffered a devastating knee injury and was placed on injured reserve. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of his fourth NFL season where he only lasted a couple of weeks before the knee injury sidelined him for good. After undergoing six knee surgeries in an attempt to return to the NFL a new passion was awakened within John to help prevent what happened to him from happening to others. A non-science major as an undergrad, he went back to USC to take the necesssary science prerequisites to take the MCAT and apply medical school. He was accepted to University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine where he went on to become a Dean's list scholr and a member of the medical school admissions committee. He completed residency in diagnostic radiology at Baylor College of Medicine and is a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology. He completed an ACGME accredited Pain Fellowship at UC Irvine. He has a passion to use minimally invasive image guided procedures to work with NFL and other athletes to treat injures restore physiologic form and fuction, minimize pain and maximize human performance.
Renee Fabrizi-Piel, PA-C
After graduating Sum Cum Laude from the University of Southern California, School of Medicine, in 2001, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel joined Dr. Richard Paicius at Newport Beach Headache & Pain. With more than a decade of experience treating thousands of patients with chronic pain Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel is passionately dedicated to the health and well-being of every individual. As part of her "whole patient" philosophy, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel utilizes traditional and alternative approaches to pain reduction inclding diet and exercise, partnering with her patients to help reconnect them to a life of pleasure and joy.
A former competitive swimmer and equestrian, Mrs. Fabrizi-Piel enjoys surfing, football and spending time with her husband and son.
Dr. Ken Tsai, L.A.c.
Dr. Ken Tsai obtained his PhD, in Philosophy of Eastern Medicine and has been practicing Acupuncture for over 20 years. He is well know in the World of Traditional Medicine and has been the Vice President and on the Board of Directors of the Acupuncture Medicine Association of Southern California. Dr. Tsai treats a variety of physical and emotional issues.
Karen Michele Russell-Hagler, CCMA-A C
Karen-Michele has been a Certified Medical Assistant over 10 years. She has been with Newport Beach Headache and Pain for the past 8 years. She enjoys the challenge of the diverse pain issues patients present with and helping the doctors to facilitate the best care to resolve them. Her hobbies include inspirational art and poetry, beachcombing, kayaking and playing with her dwarf rabbit.
Amber Stavros, Business Development
Amber has been with Newport Beach Headache and Pain for 3 years and has served in several positions giving her a great knowledge of how the office operates and what our goals are, as medical care providers. She currently serves as head of Business Development; educating Physicians and the public on the benefits of therapies that we can offer, as a Pain Management practice. Amber currently lives in Irvine with her husband Andy and their 2 dogs and a cat Bogy, Vinny and Jersey. She enjoys playing volleyball, snowboarding, going to the movies and loves Taco Tuesdays!
